At Friends of Rescue (FOR), headquartered in Huntsville, AL, our mission is to match loving animals with their perfect forever homes. By adopting from us, you’re bringing home a pet that has been nurtured and cared for in a loving foster environment. FOR also transports animals to approved adopters across the United States, with a primary focus on New England and the Great Lakes regions. Approved adopters outside of the Huntsville area are responsible for the cost of transport.
How to Adopt:
1. Submit an Application
Start by filling out an adoption application. This helps us get to know you and ensures we can find the best match for your lifestyle.
2. Verification Process
After receiving your application, we will verify your veterinary information to ensure our adopters are committed to providing excellent care for their new pets.
3. Application Review
We carefully review all applications submitted for each animal. Our goal is to find the best fit for each pet to ensure they thrive in their new home.
4. Meet and Greet
Once we identify the best fit, you will receive an email, call, or text to coordinate a meet-and-greet time. If you are an out-of-state adopter, this step may be conducted virtually.
5. Transportation
If you are located outside of the Huntsville, AL, area, FOR can arrange transportation to deliver your new pet to you. Approved adopters are responsible for the cost of transport, which ensures the safe and comfortable arrival of your new family member.
Our Foster Homes
All FOR animals are cared for in loving foster homes within the Huntsville area. This ensures they are well-socialized, loved, and accustomed to a home environment. At the time of adoption, you can be assured that your new pet has been:
- Dewormed
- Vaccinated
- Tested for common illnesses
- Microchipped
- Spayed or neutered
Foster-to-Adopt Program
Our Foster-to-Adopt program is ideal for those living in the Huntsville, AL, area who are interested in adopting a puppy or kitten that has received their first set of vaccinations but is not yet old enough for spay/neuter. This program allows adopters to “foster” the animal until their final vetting is complete, at which point the adoption will be finalized.
Pre-Adoption Option
For adopters outside of the Huntsville area, our pre-adoption program allows you to reserve a puppy or kitten until their final vetting is complete. While the animal stays with their foster family, you’ll be able to prepare for your new arrival. Once the animal’s final vetting is complete, transportation arrangements can be made to bring your new pet home.
